Tax Freedom Day

According to the Tax Foundation, today is Tax Freedom Day in the US, which is the day on which Americans have worked enough to pay their taxes for the year.

Quest for a tolerable news programme

Business travelers have long been forced to deal with the not-so-dulcet tones of Richard Quest, CNN International’s loudmouth news voice. And apparently, I’m not the only one who finds him annoying.

Now, Mr Quest has gotten himself into some hot water, and as the article points out, it will be interesting to see if it quiets […]

Hi mom how are you hope all is well bye

When I lived in Germany, I very rarely called home because even watching the numbers on my old phone, each one another 23 pfennigs gone, made by frugal heart drop. Now, a call from my cell phone is cheaper than the best rate I got in the bad old days, and a call from the […]

Behind boardroom doors

I’ve been reminded a lot recently that European males really have to be exceptionally careful when traveling to the US for business. Crime, perhaps? Looking for the next low cost country

Gartner publishes a lot of interesting business research, mostly on topics revolving around IT. Take any IT business topic which I have […]

How to Increase International Sales? Send the CEO to a Foreign Country.

I just read an interview with Michael Snedden, president and CEO of MultiLing Corporation, a translation services company. Three years ago, MultiLing made a commitment to expand operations to Europe. Michael packed up his family and moved to Germany. They submerged themselves in the culture, hoping to integrate and learn German more quickly. After one […]

Who Will Be the Next Low Cost Country?

Wages have been increasing in a number of traditional Low Cost Country (LCC) locations.
Eurostat, the European Union’s statistics office, reports the following increases in industrial wages:

Czech Republic: 6.7%
Slovakia: 8.1%
Poland: 11.1%
Romania: 21.6%
Germany: 1.5%
France: 3%

Around Shanghai, China, wages in some industries are approaching European levels.  (Source: Automotive News Europe). My post yesterday discussed reasons for setting up […]

Global R&D Strategies

Many global companies are expanding their worldwide engineering locations. There are a number of reasons to spread engineering resources around the global:
• Proximity to local markets
It is hard to design and develop a product targeted at Korea when your resources are located in the US. Products for a local market […]
