China’s Automotive Market

by Jean Mercedes on April 14th, 2008

Automotive News has recently published their 2008 Guide to China’s Auto Market.

The Guide is available here.

If you are wondering why you should care about the automotive market in China, consider this:

  • China is now the second largest new-car market in the world, just behind the US.
  • Buick sells more cars in China than they do in the US.
  • If a market is buying cars they are also buying all kinds of expensive consumer goods.
  • A number of the Chinese car models are poised to launch in the US and Europe.

But before we all get ready to say it loud and say it proud that “My Car was Made in China” there is still that small issue of human rights, Tibet and potential Olympic boycott to be resolved.

When you think about buying a new car, which issue is most important to you: quality, fuel consumption, cost or politics of the country where the vehicle was produced?
