Max 100 ml

by Jean Mercedes on November 5th, 2007

Security at airports is one of my pet peeves.

Today in Frankfurt: you have to pity the folks who forgot their max 100 ml containers in a clear, resealable bag. One traveller from Eastern Europe was carrying too much perfume. (When that stuff gets confiscated, do you really think they throw it out at night?) Another guy politely asked the security attendant where he could get a plastic bag. Her answer: “At home. It’s not my problem you forgot it”. Thanks for sharing! Where did you learn your people skills?

In the meantime, some airports have gotten smart and have the bags right there at security. Other airports provide them or sell them at the book store or kiosk. Last week in Bristol, UK, I saw vending machines set up to sell them. Now there’s a good idea.

An even better idea would be to get rid of the liquid restriction, which, believe it or not, was being considered by the EU.

I just avoid all liquids, but that’s not an option for some. Given the stuff I see people carry through security, I can’t imagine the liquids are our biggest risk.
