Siemens Has the Answers for America

by Jean Mercedes on April 9th, 2008

Flipping through a business magazine this week, I happened to spot an ad for Siemens. It read “How can a global company be a driving force in the American economy?” The Siemens answer: 70,000 US employees…

Is it just me or is it the zeitgeist of globalization everywhere I look?

As I asked in a previous post - what is the difference between a large (global) US company with 70,000 employees in the US and a large (global) German company with 70,000 employees in the US? Both pay taxes, both do business following US and local regulations. Both are optimizing their businesses to increase shareholder value with stocks trading on global markets.

The purpose of the Siemens ad campaign is to make the American public more comfortable with the Siemens name and to show their commitment to business in the US. I wonder if Siemens is running commitment ads like this in all of their major markets?

Siemens is running its “Answers” ad campaign globally — focusing on our three business sectors: energy, healthcare and industry. The campaign also appears in our major markets (i.e. as “Answers for China”). I totally agree that globalization is having a positive impact on America’s economy. Siemens pays more than $5 billion in salaries to its 70,000 US employees, and we’re building and modernizing factories all over the USA — in Iowa to build wind turbines, in Ohio to modernize a 100-year-old electronics factory.

We think the ad campaign is a perfect way to explain how Siemens is helping America answer some of its toughest questions.
